I love Maria's café.
None of the plates or mugs match. The bulbs are bare and it is sparsely decorated. It's usually empty but the locals drop by sometimes to sit quietly and drink some coffee and get a fantastic (and CHEAP, I'm talking a 3 course meal with steak, dessert and a drink for $3) meal.
Don't bother trying to decide what to order. Just tell her to give you whatever she made today. It will most likely surprise and delight you. Most of the dishes she serves me I have never seen before and the flavor and ingredient combinations are beyond anything I've ever conceived. But it's always something fabulous. Simple, hearty, and beautifully presented.
You really get the sense of being in an authentic Mexican restaurant with a sweet (and neat) sister as the cook. Plus, you can always come here if you want to learn more about the history of the town or the natural treasures of the area. The walls are covered with photographs of local waterfalls, canyons, and caves. And the owners-the Herreras-have been in this town for about 300 years. The house where Café Pinal is located takes up an entire side of the street and while the café is only about 50 yrs old the house itself is well over 100 years old.
So if you're ever in Pinal de Amoles make sure to stop by. It's the first restaurant on the right hand side of the plaza principal and anyone can tell you how to get there.
If you ask Maria for a cup of her "cafe de olla" with a scoop of chocolate mixed in she'll know I sent you.

Ninguno de los vasos para café combinan. Las luces están pelonas y hay poca decoración. Normalmente está vacío excepto por algunos nativos de Pinal que pasan a veces para sentarse tranquilamente y beber un poco de café y conseguir un fantástico ( y BARATO-hablo de 3 cursos con bistec, postre y una bebida todo por $3 US) plato de cómida.
No te preocupes si no sabes qué ordenar. Solo dile que te dé lo que haya hecho hoy. Lo más probable es qué te sorprenda y deleite. La mayoría de los platos que me sirve son cosas que nunca he visto antes y la combinación de sabores e ingredientes va más allá de cualquier cosa que yo haya imaginado. Pero siempre es algo sencillo, abundante, y hermosamente presentado.
Realmente sientes que estás en un restaurante Mexicano auténtico con una dulce (y nítida) hermana como la cocinera. Además, siempre puedes venir aquí si quieres aprender más sobre la historia del pueblo o los tesoros naturales del área. Las paredes están cubiertas con fotografías de cascadas, canyones, y cuevas locales. Los dueños- los Herrera- han estado en este pueblo alrededor de 300 años. La casa donde esta situado el Café Pinal ocupa todo un lado de la calle y mientras que el Café solo tiene como 50 años la casa en sí tiene más de 100.
Así que si alguna vez estás en Pinal asegúrate de pasar por allí. Es el primer restaurante a mano derecha en la plaza prinicpal y cualquiera te puede decir cómo llegar.
Si le pides a María un vaso de su café de olla con una cucharada de chocolate sabrá que yo te mandé.
