Our C.O. visits aren't like your C.O. visits

This is Harvard. 

It’s hardcore here and the C.O. doesn’t play.

At the beginning of the week you’re terrified and by the end of the week your body is destroyed.  But it’s also a happy time, ha ha.  

Is there a flaw in your congregation or your hall?  Believe me, you will be called out about it, PUBLICLY.

Service? You will be there, EVERYDAY.

C.O. won’t tell you what km to bring to the group?  That’s ok, because of course you brought them ALL.

But you will also never feel so close to your congregation, so excited, involved, and fulfilled as you will this week.  Yes, you will be run into the ground but you’ll be sorry when it’s over.

Aquí las cosas se hacen en serio y el Superintendente Viajante no juega.

Al principio de la semana estarás aterrada y al final tu cuerpo estará destrozado.  Pero también es un tiempo felíz, ja ja.

Hay algún defecto en tu congregación o en tu salón?  Créeme, se les llamará la atención, PUBLICAMENTE.

El Servicio?  Vas a estar allí, TODOS LOS DíAS.

El Viajante no te quiere decir que ministerio traer al grupo?  Está bien, porque seguramente los trajistes TODOS.

Pero jamás te sentirás tan cerca a tu congregación, tan emocionada, involucrada, ni satisfecha como esta semana.  Sí, trabajarás a más no poder, pero te lamentarás cuando termine.

Since we're not a congregation yet during the C.O. visit we have to travel about an hour to Río Escanela for service and the meetings.  We leave while it's still dark and we return when it's dark.  Eleven of us rode in the back of a truck.  How tight was it?  

Each of my feet was under a different person.

Como todavía no somos congregación durante la visita del Viajante tenemos que viajar aproximadamente una hora a Río Escanela para el servicio y la reunión.  Salimos cuando todavía es oscuro y regresamos cuando ya está oscuro.

Íbamos once en la parte trasera de una camioneta.  ¿Qué tan apretados íbamos?

We usually pack our lunches so we can share with each other and a lot of times we eat outside.
Normalmente traemos nuestros almuerzos para poder compartir unos con otros y muchas veces comemos afuera. 

Snacktime-fresh corn with mayonnaise, lime, salt, cheese, and powdered chile.  Preaching in rural Mexico definitely has its perks.

La merienda-maíz fresco con mayonesa, limón, sal, queso y chile en polvo.  Predicar en las zonas rurales de México definitivamente tiene sus ventajas.

Abuelitas

I love little old ladies!  Or "abuelitas", meaning "grandmothers", as the brothers here like to call them.  There are many, many older women living here in the Sierra.  Most of them seem to be self-sufficient.  They walk incredible distances, live off the land, work HARD every day, and many of them still work to sustain themselves.  I see a lot of them come from their rural communities into town on Sundays to sell whatever they have grown or made.  These women are tough, funny, and beautiful.  They have all my respect.
This sister is 83 years old and she was my service partner one morning during the C.O. visit.  She can't read but she always supports the service groups during the visit and she walked for two hours with me that morning without complaint.  She has a great sense of humor despite personal tragedy and serves faithfully even though she is the only person in her family who is a witness.  After service she declined to have lunch with us because she had to rush off to make tortillas for her son!
Me encantan las viejitas! O "abuelitas", como a los hermanos les gusta llamarles.  Hay muchas, muchas mujeres mayores viviendo aquí en la Sierra.  La mayoría parecen ser auto-suficientes.  Caminan distancias increíbles, viven de la tierra, trabajan DURO todos los días, y muchas de ellas todavía trabajan para mantenerse.  Veo a muchas de ellas llegar desde sus comunidades rurales al pueblo los domingos para vender lo que hayan cultivado o creado.  Estas mujeres son fuertes, chistosas, y hermosas.  Tienen todo mi respeto.
Esta hermana tiene 83 años y fue mi compañera de servicio una de las mañanas durante la visita del superintendente de circuito.  No puede leer pero siempre apoya a los grupos de servicio durante la visita y caminó dos horas conmigo esa mañana sin quejarse nunca.  Tiene un gran sentido del humor a pesar de haber vivido tragedias personales y sirve fielmente aunque es la única persona en su familia que es Testigo.  Después del servicio rehusó comer con nosotros porque ¡tenía mucha prisa por hacerle tortillas a su hijo!

And this is her sister-in-law who is well into her 90s.  She accepted the invitation to go to the Kingdom Hall.
Y esta es su cuñada quién está bien entrada en sus 90s.  Aceptó la invitación de ir al Salón del Reino.

And this is Maria.  She's a return visit.  She is 86 and lives by herself in this little clapboard house.  She cooks for herself on a wood stove and she still sees well enough to sew.  She loves hats and having her picture taken.

Y esta es María.  Es una revisita.  Tiene 86 años y vive sola en esta casita de tablas.  Cocina su comida sobre una estufa de leña y todavía ve lo suficientemente bién para poder coser.  Le encantan los sombreros y qué le tomen su foto.
