Fresh Meat

For the going-away party for the special pioneer (who was also the elder and his wife) some young borothers from the group (the ones that have been hitherto moved) bought, killed, and cooked a goat.  They are 21 and 15 years old.

Para la despedida del precursor especial(que también era el anciano y su esposa) unos hermanitos del grupo (los que ya fueron cambiados) compraron, mataron, y cocinaron un chivo.  Tienen 21 y 15 años.

Despues de pelar el chivo removieron y lavaron todos los organos.
Este es el estomago, lleno de pasto fresco.

And amazingly, they didn't get a single drop of blood on them.  That's what I call skill.

E increiblemente, no se mancharon con una sola gota de sangre.  A eso le llamo destreza.

Bucarelí

This is the "ex-convento de Bucarelí" but it was never actually used as a convent or anything else really, for that matter.  It was never finished so it doesn't have a roof or anything inside and it was only very briefly used by some monks.  It's now just a tourist attraction (with no guards by the way) and it's the last place we go to on service on Friday.  The town it stands over is called Bucarelí and we have to walk over 2 hours to get there.  At least the view is great.
Este es el ex-covento de Bucarelí, pero en realidad nunca se usó como un convento ni de ninguna otra forma, de hecho.  Nunca fue terminado así que no tiene techo y solo se le usó muy brevemente por unos monjes.  Ahora es solo una atracción turística(sin guardias, por cierto) y es el último lugar al que vamos en el servicio el viernes.  El pueblo sobre el cúal se encuentra se llama Bucarelí y tenemos que caminar más de 2 horas para llegar allí.  Octavio dice que caminamos como 14 km (8.7mi) ese día.
Al menos la vista es muy buena.

And sometimes a truck gives us a ride.  Like this time when we got to ride with a horse.

Golden Boys

So here's the deal in Mexico.  Young, single, beautiful, intelligent pioneer sisters are a dime a dozen but MEN are worth their weight in gold.  Especially devoted, hard-working men.
If you are a brother we invite you to come and help us! Please! We will love you forever!
Because here's the situation in our little group of Pinal de Amoles.  A situation that is seen all across this nation.  Out of the 18 publishers in our group 8 were men.  5 of those men were reassigned to other congregations.  Then another decided to leave because of his job.  That leaves 2 brothers in our group.  One of those is Octavio Herrera (second from the right), the sole ministerial servant and an auxiliary pioneer.  The other is a 13 year old boy who is also an auxiliary pioneer.  And that's it.  We have no elder.
Octavio is now going to be in charge of everything: the Bible highlights, the school assignments, all the service meeting parts, the public talks on Sundays when no one else can come(he has 100 outlines), the Watchtower study, the weekend service groups, cleaning arrangements, pick up literature, etc.  He has to do the work of the secretary, the service overseer, and everything else.  On top of that he has his service time to make and a 4-day work schedule.  He is still building his house and he also has to take care of the needs of the sisters who are here for the pioneer campaign (out of 30 that are coming, only 3 are brothers).
That little brother, Josué Lozano (third from the right) is going to be in charge of taking out the service groups during the week, which includes giving serious and practical considerations before service, renting trucks to take us all to the isolated territory and watching out for the safety of all of the pioneer sisters.  He is also in charge of literature.
So, us sisters will start to get more privileges that would normally be reserved for brothers and we might have to start giving Bible studies to men because Josué can't take care of all the male interest by himself.  So please! If you can come, even just temporarily, you will be much appreciated and you will have contributed to the creation of a new congregation.  Plus, you'll be invited to every get-together and if you're single all the sisters will want to feed you and will spoil you immensely, lol.  But most importantly, all the work you do will be really, truly appreciated by your congregation, your territory, and Jehovah.

Así que así está la situación en México.  Precursoras jóvenes, solteras, hermosas, e inteligentes son lo más común y corriente pero los HOMBRES valen su peso en oro.  Especialmente hombres trabajadores y devotos.
Así que si eres un hermano ¡te invitamos a que vengas a ayudarnos!  ¡Por favor! ¡Te vamos a querer para siempre!
Porque esta es la situación de nuestro pequeño grupo de Pinal de Amoles.  Una situación que se ve a través de todo este país.
De los 18 publicadores que había en nuestro grupo, 8 eran hombres.  5 de esos hombres fueron reasignados a otras congregaciones.  Y después otro decidió  irse por su trabajo.  Solo quedan 2 hermanos en nuestro grupo.
Uno de esos es Octavio Herrera (el segundo desde la derecha), el único siervo ministerial y un precursor auxiliar.  El otro es un niño de 13 años que también es un precursor auxiliar.  Y eso es todo.  No tenemos ningún anciano.
Octavio ahora va a quedar encargado de todo: los puntos sobresalientes, asignar las partes de la escuela,  todas las partes de la reunión de servicio, los discursos públicos para los domingos cuando nadie más puede venir(tiene 100 bosquejos), el estudio de La Atalaya, sacar los grupos de servicio el fin de semana, hacer los arreglos de limpieza, recoger la literatura, etc.  Tiene que hacer el trabajo del secretario y del superintendente de servicio y todo lo demás.  Encima de eso tiene que conseguir su tiempo de servicio y trabaja seglarmente 4 días a la semana.  Todavía está construyendo su propia casa y tiene que atender las necesidades de las hemanas que están aquí para la campaña de precursores (de los 30 que vienen, solo 3 son hermanos).
Y el hermanito, Josué Lozano (el tercero desde la derecha) estará encargado de sacar los grupos de servicio durante la semana, lo que incluye dar consideraciones serias y prácticas antes de salir al servicio, rentar la camioneta que nos lleva al territorio aislado, y velar por el bienestar de todas las precursoras.  También está encargado de la literatura.
Así que nosotras las hermanas empezaremos a recibir privilegios normalmente reservados para los hermanos y tal vez tendremos que darle estudio a los hombres porque Josué no puedo atender a todos los hombres interesados él solo.  Así que, ¡por favor!  Si puedes venir, aunque sea temporalmente, serás muy apreciado y habrás contribuido a la formación de una nueva congregación. Además, te invitarán a todos los convivios, y si eres soltero, todas las hermanas querrán darte de comer y te consentirán inmensamente, ja ja.  Pero más importantemente, todo el trabajo que hagas será real y verdaderamente apreciado por tu congregación, tu territorio, y Jehová.

Sorry for the wait!

Sorry that it takes me so long to post new things.  It's just that since I don't have internet at home I have to walk a mile downhill with my computer on my back in order to sit in the plaza in front of the Catholic church (because that's where the town's free Wifi is and it's very expensive and slow to use a Cyber), and then walk a mile back home, uphill, in the dark.  Also, I can't do it on holidays because there's always crazy stuff going on outside the church, and the entire month of December is one NON-STOP holiday.  Oh, and the only day I have to do all this is Monday.  And if I have to work or do laundry that day then I miss my chance.  So Sorry!  Please forgive me and don't forget me!  Keep in touch and comment!  I love it when you do. :)
Oh, and there's your pic, Min, lol.  I know I look funny but that's because I'm coming from work there, and I was hitchhiking on the back of someone's truck (which is something I do a lot now, lol).

Lo siento por tardarme tanto en publicar cosas nuevas.  Es solo que como no tengo internet en casa tengo que caminar una milla hacia abajo con mi computadora sobre mi espalda para poder sentarme en la plaza en frente de la iglesia Católica (porque es allí donde está el Wifi grátis del pueblo y es demasiado caro y lento usar un Ciber), y después caminar una milla para regresar a casa, cuesta arriba, en la oscuridad.  Además, no puedo ir en días de fiesta porque siempre están haciendo cosas raras en frente de la iglesia, y el entero mes de diciembre es una fiesta SIN PARAR.  Oh, y el único día que tengo para hacer todo esto es el Lunes.  Y si tengo que trabajar o lavar ese día entonces pierdo mi oportunidad.  ¡Así que lo siento! ¡Perdónenme y no me olviden!  ¡Manténganse en contacto y comenten! Me encanta cuando lo hacen. :)
Oh, y allí está tu foto, Min, ja ja.  Yo sé que me veo chistosa pero es porque vengo del trabajo allí, y estaba de aventón en la parte trasera de la camioneta de alguién (lo cúal es algo que hago mucho ahora,ja ja).  Cuídense todos!

Laundry Service

Doing laundry here is a real challenge.  Sometimes I've had to walk several miles in order to take the clothes from the house to where the machine was and to return with the clothes that's dry.  Then, because it's almost always cloudy and cold and humid here the clothes can take several days to dry.  But I've learned a lot from the people here, like, for example that:

-Nothing will ever get your clothes whiter than handwashing them in a lavadero (concrete washboard) with Tepeyac (old-school Mexican bar) soap.

-You can make a "Pioneer Washing Machine" by sticking a broom handle in a 2 Liter Coke Bottle and using it as an agitator in a 5 gallon bucket full of soap, water, and clothes.

-You can iron your clothes with a hot frying pan.

-Worst Case Scenario: If you're preaching in isolated territory for several days and you didn't bring a change of clothes you can just let the rain wet you and let your clothes air-dry while still on your body (Yeah, that seriously happened to somebody).

Lavar aquí es un verdadero desafío.  A veces he tenido que recorrer varias millas para llevar la ropa de la casa hasta donde estaba la maquina y regresar con la que ya está seca.  Luego, como aquí casi siempre está nublado y frío y húmedo la ropa puede tardar varios días en secarse.   Pero he aprendido muchas cosas aquí como que:

-Nada logrará que tu ropa quede tan blanca como lavarla a mano en un lavadero con jabón Tepeyac.

-Puedes hacer una "Lavadora de Precursora" si metes un palo de una escoba en una botella de 2 L de Coca y la usas como agitadora en una cubeta de 5 galones llena de jabón, agua, y ropa.

-Puedes planchar tu ropa con un sartén caliente.

-Lo peor que pudiera pasar: Si estás predicando en territorio aislado por varios días y no trajiste un cambio de ropa puedes dejar que la lluvia te moje y que el aire te seque la ropa mientras todavía la traes puesta (Sí, de verdad le pasó eso a alguién).
