We’re all used to the time of the Memorial being
a time of intensified activity but I had never participated so fully in the
memorial arrangements as I did here in Pinal this year.
First, the pioneers themselves were put in
charge of filling out the invitations, like in an assembly line all of us young
people got to work one morning in the kingdom hall-cutting and gluing labels
while we sang kingdom melodies.
We set ourselves the goal of distributing two
thousand invitations between the 17 of us that were supporting the group that
month and to try and cover our 28 territories-many of which hadn’t been touched
in years. Cuatro Palos, for example, had
gone some 8 years without being preached.
The brothers of Río Escanela supported us on various occasions in order
to help us cover them all and we did achieve quite a bit of progress but we ran
out of invitations before we ran out of territory and that’s with us not
leaving any at the Not at Homes. We were
then told to just continue inviting people verbally.
Todos estamos acostumbrados a que la epoca de
la Conmemoración sea un tiempo de actividad acelerada pero jamás había
participado tan plenamente en los arreglos de la Conmemoración como aquí en
Pinal este año.
Primero las precursoras mismas se encargaron
de llenar las invitaciones, como en una linea de asamblaje todos los jóvenes
nos pusimos a trabajar una mañana en el salon-cortando y pegando etiquetas
mientras cantábamos cánticos.
Nos propusimos repartir unas dos mil
invitaciones entre los 17 que estábamos apoyando el grupo ese mes y tratar de
abarcar nuestros 28 territorios-muchos de los cuáles no se habían tocado en
años. Cuatro
Palos, por ejemplo, llevaba unos 8 años sin predicarse. Los hermanos de Río Escanela nos apoyaron en
varias ocasiones para ayudarnos a cubrirlos todos y sí logramos bastante
progreso pero se nos acabaron las invitaciones antes de que se nos acabara el
territorio y eso que no estábamos dejándolos en los “No en Casa”. Entonces se nos dijo que siguiéramos
invitando a la gente solo que verbalmente.
We preached one town, and then we walked to
the bottom of this valley to get to the next, those last buildings that are
visible-that’s where we had lunch-because of course, the day is just starting!

ven-ahí

Aside from the invitation campaign there
were many details to attend to in order to prepare for the Memorial.
Aparte de la campaña de invitaciones hubo
muchos detalles que attender para prepararnos para la Conmemoración.
For example, we had to look for the right
wine.
Por ejemplo tuvimos
que buscar el vino correcto.
Get pure wheat, clean it, toast it, grind
it and make the bread.
Conseguir trigo puro,
limpiarlo, tostarlo, molerlo, y hacer los panes.
Paint the kingdom hall, put down tile in
the bathroom, and put a fresh layer of Polyurethane on the platform.
Pintar el salón, poner piso en el baño, y ponerle una capa
fresca de Polyurethano a la plataforma
Look for and buy cloth to make new curtains
and get flowers and pots, a table, tablecloth, plates, and glasses.
Buscar y comprar tela
para hacer cortinas nuevas y conseguir flores y floreros, una mesa, mantel,
platos y copas.
And finally the big day arrived!

Then we could relax for a few days with our
guests, the Leistikows and Solorzanos. Andrew gave the talk!
